Child Advocacy Center Herkimer County

1 in 6 boys will be sexually abused before his 18th birthday

In 2001, after growing concerns about the incidences of child abuse in Herkimer County, the YWCA of the Mohawk Valley was approached by the Herkimer County District Attorney's Office and Herkimer County Department of Social Services to act as the lead agency in the formation of the Child Advocacy Center of Herkimer County.  Created in October of 2001, the HCCAC formed a county-wide investigation unit to ensure uniform handling of cases of alleged sexual and severe physical abuse of children.

The CAC received national accreditation through the National Children's Alliance in Fall of 2006.

Members of the Child Advocacy Center of Herkimer County include: Catholic Charities, Dolgeville Police, Family Services of the Mohawk Valley, Frankfort Town Police, Frankfort Village Police, Herkimer County District Attorney's Office, Herkimer Police, Herkimer County Department of Social Services, Child Protective Services, Ilion Police, Little Falls Hospital, Little Falls Police, Mohawk Police, Webb Police and the YWCA of the Mohawk Valley.
