Relationship violence is about power and control.

Abuse can take many forms.  Some types are more subtle than others and may never be seen or felt by anyone other than the victim.  The abuser uses a combination of tactics that work to control the victim.  The abuse usually increases in frequency and severity over time.

If you are in a violent relationship...

  • Take it seriously!
  • Know it is not your fault
  • Believe in yourself
    • If you think something is wrong, it usually is
  • Get help
    • Call the YWCA 24-Hour Hotline at 797-7740
    • If you are in immediate danger call the police
    • Talk to a family member or friend that you trust
    • Get counseling, the YWCA offers free and confidential counseling
