Agency Affirms a Woman’s Right to Choose
UTICA, N.Y. (June 24, 2022) – YWCA Mohawk Valley (YWCA MV) is deeply frustrated, disappointed, and angered by the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.
With a number of trigger laws in place in nearly half the states, this decision already has disastrous implications for women everywhere. Abortion is healthcare, and healthcare is a fundamental human right. Banning abortions will not stop them, it will only make them more dangerous.
The Supreme Court’s final decision was made despite overwhelming opposition after the leaked draft opinion in May. Overturning Roe v. Wade undermines 50 years of progress made for the rights and autonomy of women everywhere.
YWCA has been at the forefront of human rights movements across the United States for more than a century. Now, we are faced with the same fight our predecessors, mothers, grandmothers, and great-grandmothers fought for us in the hopes that we would never have to.
To achieve the world that YWCA envisions, one free from racism and sexism, abortion must be fully protected as a fundamental right.
