YWCA MV Thanks MTPT for $30,000 Award to Support Domestic Violence Shelter Programs

YWCA Mohawk Valley Receives Award from M&T Bank/Partners Trust Bank Charitable Fund (MTPT)

UTICA, N.Y. (Sept. 27, 2022) – YWCA Mohawk Valley (YWCA MV) was awarded $30,000 by M&T Bank/Partners Trust Bank Charitable Fund (MTPT) to support the agency’s two domestic violence shelters. After granting a similar award in 2021, MTPT raised their gift amount for 2022 by 20%, noting YWCA MV’s continued increase in demand for services.

“We are honored to receive this level of support once again from MTPT,” says YWCA MV CEO Dianne Stancato. “Our emergency shelter houses dozens of women and their families every year. The generosity of this award will go far in making sure they are all safe, comfortable, and ready to start new lives.”

The funds will directly benefit both residential spaces operated by YWCA MV: Hall House, the agency’s 24-hour emergency shelter, and Lucy’s House, a certified safe dwelling. YWCA MV residential staff offer support around the clock that clients can access directly throughout their stay. Available services include one-on-one counseling with a licensed clinician, support groups with other survivors, and case management during the transition from shelter to independent living. All services are provided to residents at no cost.

“The outstanding staff, board members, and volunteers from YWCA MV share our vision to improve lives every day here in the Mohawk Valley and throughout all of the communities in our region,” says David Manzelmann, Utica Market President at M&T Bank and Chair of the MTPT. “Their work to care for survivors of domestic abuse and transition them from emergency shelters into safe, affordable housing serves as a national model. We’re honored to support this mission, which empowers survivors and their families and makes a profound impact in their lives.”

YWCA MV provides residents with commodities to keep throughout their stay and after, including towels, bedding, toiletries, and spare clothing. Staff also keep a stocked kitchen, keeping in mind any dietary restrictions of current residents.
